National Coffee Day is PR Done Right

In the land of public relations, we are always looking for fun a creative ways to spread the word about our clients. A press release about a recent business deal isn't the only way to get national and local media attention.  Take it from Dunkin Donuts.

Saturday, September 29 is National Coffee Day, so in celebration Dunkin decided to partner with CareerBuilder to survey workers about coffee consumption.  The result? Coverage appearing in local, national and trade media about the most coffee-dependent professions. When two of those professions turn out to be marketing/pr professionals and media professionals, you've hit the jack-pot!

The creative use of National Coffee Day with survey data was brilliant.  Instead of just giving out free coffee in honor of national “holiday” and being mentioned in media round-ups with all the others giving out free coffee,  the company managed to turn it into a news-worthy marketing campaign that translated into millions of media impressions.  Of course, they still have a deal on coffee for those that want to print out a coupon!

So, wondering where to get that free coffee? Check your local bargain-hunting websites for a list.  For our Atlanta readers, you can find the latest deals here.
